Continuing to Advance Energy Leadership Through Domestic Manufacturing

by Jim Murphy, President and Co-Founder of Invenergy

Over the next ten years, United States electricity demand is expected to grow 20-40%, a rate unseen in the last 20 years.[i] While forecasts vary, there is consensus that demand will continue to grow at an unprecedented pace. Meeting this moment requires a modern grid and a balanced mix of energy sources to keep power affordable and reliable for customers.
As the industry continues to scale and demand forecasts point up, it is clear the United States needs capacity to produce these energy technologies at home. A strong domestic manufacturing ecosystem, capable of producing all kinds of energy including solar, strengthens supply chains, supports jobs, and positions the country to lead globally across every sector of our economy.
At Invenergy, we’ve successfully developed, owned and operated large-scale power infrastructure projects across more than 220 projects for the last 25 years. That track record, combined with our deep industry partnerships, enabled us to expand our core business and launch Illuminate USA—our 1.1 million square foot advanced solar panel manufacturing facility in Ohio.
Since operations began in 2024, Illuminate USA has rapidly ramped up production, manufacturing more than a thousand bi-facial solar panels per hour with the world’s leading manufacturing technology deployed across eight high-performance production lines optimized for quality and speed.
Our approach was straightforward: bring world-class solar manufacturing back to America and partner with proven leaders to execute. The result was the creation of over 1,600 advanced manufacturing jobs for America, a cutting-edge manufacturing technology reshored, and the production of over eight million high-tech panels to meet U.S. customer demand.
Building on this momentum, Invenergy has increased its investment and now owns a supermajority in Illuminate USA. In addition, we are modifying and diversifying Illuminate’s supply chain to eliminate any sourcing from suppliers based in adverse foreign jurisdictions and to procure from US suppliers where feasible.  And because US supply of the inputs required for Illuminate’s solar panels is limited, we are actively evaluating additional opportunities to expand our own domestic manufacturing business to create more of this supply in the USA.
With these increased manufacturing capabilities and our broad portfolio of energy technologies and industry partnerships, we will continue delivering smart energy solutions at scale for our customers and communities.
