Project will help I&M meet rapidly rising energy demand

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) has made a filing with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) requesting approval of a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN) to acquire the Sycamore Riverside Energy Center, a planned 918 megawatt (MW) natural gas combustion turbine generation facility to be built in Sullivan County, Indiana.

I&M anticipates a decision from the IURC on the filing by the end of 2026. If the CPCN request is approved within the anticipated timeframe, I&M is expected to take ownership of the facility in March of 2029 once construction and commissioning are complete. The site is adjacent to I&M’s retired Breed Generation Facility. I&M has a long and positive history of collaboration with the community and looks forward to reinvesting in the area.

The proposal to acquire Sycamore Riverside is a component of I&M’s

plan, which details the resources needed to provide I&M customers with reliable and affordable energy today and into the future. The cost of the project will not impact I&M’s ability to request a reduction in base rates as well as a multi-year freeze of non-fuel rates for Indiana customers.

The acquisition is necessary to meet increased energy and capacity demand and the filing contains additional information on future operating plans, fuel supply strategy, status of major equipment purchases and affordability considerations. Through the CPCN process, the IURC will evaluate whether the acquisition is reasonable and in the public’s interest.

“As our communities continue to grow, we are investing in a diverse generation portfolio consisting of new and existing facilities, designed to meet our customers’ future energy needs,” said Steve Baker, I&M president and chief operating officer. “The Sycamore Riverside Energy Center is a dispatchable resource, providing reliable on-demand power during periods of peak energy needs.”

The project is being developed by Invenergy, North America’s largest privately held independent power producer and energy infrastructure innovator. Sycamore Riverside Energy Center will be Invenergy’s third project in Sullivan County.

“We look forward to working with I&M on this project and moving it into the next phase of its development,” said Daniel Runyan, Invenergy’s senior vice president of development. “As energy demand continues to grow, unlocking reliable, affordable, domestic energy helps ensure that Indiana customers have consistent power when they need it most.”

I&M is navigating an unprecedented time in history. As the company looks ahead, power demand is expected to more than double the Indiana peak from approximately 2,800 MW in 2024 to more than 7,000 MW in the 2030 timeframe. The rapid growth in energy demand provides an opportunity for I&M to reshape the way it serves current customers and those the company will serve decades into the future.

I&M’s generation portfolio incorporates a diverse mix of resources, including solar, wind, nuclear, natural gas, coal and hydroelectric units. The company’s vision for the future is to implement a comprehensive approach to providing a reliable, resilient, and stable electric power system that customers can access affordably.

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is headquartered in Fort Wayne, and its approximately 2,000 employees serve more than 600,000 customers. More than 85% of its energy delivered in 2024 was emission-free. I&M has at its availability various sources of generation including 2,278 MW of nuclear generation in Michigan, 450 MW of purchased wind generation from Indiana, more than 22 MW of hydro generation in both states and approximately 35 MW of large-scale solar generation in both states. The company’s generation portfolio also includes 1,497 MW of coal-fueled generation.

American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) is committed to improving our customers' lives with reliable, affordable power. We expect to invest $72 billion from 2026 through 2030 to enhance service for customers and support the growing energy needs of our communities. Invenergy Advances 918 MW Natural Gas Project with Offtake Agreement in Indiana

Collaboration Combines AI Factory Design, Energy Resources and Flexibility to Speed Time to Power and Support Grid Reliability

that they are working with to power and advance a new class of AI factories that connect to the grid faster, generate valuable AI tokens and intelligence, and operate as flexible energy assets that can support the grid. Other companies joining this effort include AES, Constellation, NextEra Energy, Nscale Energy & Power and Vistra.

By bringing together technology, energy and infrastructure leaders, the collaboration demonstrates how companies across industries can convene to support AI innovation in the United States, while building a more reliable power system for Americans.

These next-generation AI factories will harness the new

, which includes the DSX Flex software library for connecting AI factories to power-grid services.

For accelerated deployment, the factories can use co-located energy generation and storage as bridge power for hybrid AI factories, then later harness these resources to flexibly supply the grid, accelerate AI factory interconnection and support the broader power system. This approach helps bring AI capacity online faster while creating broader value for customers and communities.

The DSX reference architecture can also support flexible AI factories without co-located energy resources to achieve larger and faster power grid connections.

Emerald AI’s Conductor platform will orchestrate computational flexibility alongside onsite generation, batteries and other behind-the-meter resources to deliver precise, grid-responsive power flexibility while ensuring quality of service for AI compute tenants. This coordination helps operators meet power targets, protect priority workloads, shorten time on bridge power, and support larger and faster interconnections. It can also help reduce the need for infrastructure to be sized around peaks, easing pressure on future system costs.

“AI factories are the engines of the intelligence era, and like any great engine, every system must be designed together — energy, compute, networking and cooling as one architecture,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “NVIDIA and Emerald AI are working together to enable a future for AI where performance, efficiency and grid responsiveness can be tapped into immediately.”

“AI factories are too valuable to be treated as either passive loads or permanent islands,” said Varun Sivaram, founder and CEO of Emerald AI. “They produce tremendously valuable AI tokens and knowledge, and with DSX Flex, they can also provide measurable relief back to the grid. Emerald Conductor orchestrates compute flexibility alongside onsite energy resources to support the grid, so projects can connect sooner, preserve quality of service for AI tenants and ultimately strengthen the power system around them.”

Building AI Factories That Strengthen the Grid

Today’s electric systems are built to serve peak demand but are underutilized during most hours of the day. Power-flexible AI factories can help unlock up to

across the U.S. power system by combining optimized infrastructure design with efficient use of existing assets and, where needed, new-build generation, while flexing during limited periods of grid stress to reduce the need for broader grid expansion to support reliability.

AI factories convert electricity into AI tokens, models and intelligence — among the highest-value outputs modern infrastructure can produce. Meeting that opportunity will require innovation in computing as well as in how companies plan, build and operate energy infrastructure.

Many gigawatt-scale AI projects are turning to co-located generation and storage because conventional interconnection timelines can be too slow for the pace of AI investment. However, permanently isolating generation and storage from the grid has drawbacks. It can leave assets underutilized, raise long-term cost per AI token and prevent energy resources from supporting grid reliability.

Invenergy, along with AES, Constellation, NextEra Energy, Nscale Energy & Power and Vistra are committed to building the energy generation capabilities necessary to ensure supply meets surging demand.

The companies will collaborate to evaluate optimized generation applications designed to power the AI factories built with the architecture developed by NVIDIA and Emerald AI, including through hybrid projects that use co-located power, to speed time to power and create value for the broader grid. By pairing large AI loads with flexible operations, new energy generation capabilities and intelligent controls, this approach can help boost grid reliability.

The companies can also support flexible AI factories that are grid-connected from the outset, using co-located energy resources if available.

“Grid flexibility will be key to addressing AI’s unprecedented demand while supporting system reliability,” said Andrés Gluski, CEO of AES. “At AES, we are enabling next-generation AI infrastructure to accelerate our clients’ time to power. DSX Flex embeds flexibility from the outset, allowing AI infrastructure to operate as a grid asset that supports faster, more efficient growth.”

“As the largest producer of clean energy in the U.S., we know data centers have enormous potential to unlock energy infrastructure investment, job creation and benefits for our communities,” said Joe Dominguez, president and CEO of Constellation. “They can also address the need for additional capacity through demand response. We don’t have a supply problem — we have a peak problem. By effectively using what we already have, including power-flexible AI factories that also enable AI-powered demand response, we can accommodate new load growth more efficiently.”

“AI is changing how we’re thinking about energy, and our customers need power fast, with the ability to scale over time,” said Michael Polsky, founder and CEO of Invenergy. “Combining near-term generation solutions with a path to full grid connection and flexible operations is an innovative and efficient way to help our customers meet their energy needs faster while keeping the system reliable.”

“To meet unprecedented new electricity demand while maintaining a reliable and resilient grid, now more than ever, we need to add generation resources,” said John Ketchum, chairman, president and CEO of NextEra Energy. “We also need technologies that allow new demand and related generation to integrate into the grid quickly and at the lowest possible cost. NextEra looks forward to working with NVIDIA and Emerald AI to help design efficient energy campuses and flexible AI factories that economically support rising demand while further strengthening America’s energy infrastructure.”

“We are committed to stabilizing the grid and helping West Virginia families and businesses have ready access to the power they need,” said Daniel Shapiro, chief power and energy officer of Nscale Energy & Power. “When we’re interconnected, we’ll be there on the grid’s highest-demand days to supply electricity back — that’s what 2 gigawatts scaling to 8 gigawatts of onsite generation means. Nscale’s Monarch campus is a power asset for West Virginia, not a load on it.”

“U.S. grids are designed to handle the highest-peak demand scenarios, which make up very few hours during the year,” said Jim Burke, president and CEO of Vistra. “AI factories that have the flexibility to adjust their power use with grid conditions are a faster solution, especially with co-located generation, for better utilization of the current grid infrastructure. This helps boost speed while we continue to build out more infrastructure for the long term.”

Over the last year, Emerald AI and NVIDIA trialed AI power flexibility demonstrations at five commercial data centers around the world. DSX Flex is expected to be deployed at commercial scale later this year at the NVIDIA AI Factory Research Center in Virginia, planned as one of the world’s first power-flexible AI factories with NVIDIA Vera Rubin infrastructure.

The companies intend to identify and advance project opportunities built using the Vera Rubin DSX reference design with DSX Flex to accelerate large-scale AI infrastructure deployment, support larger and faster grid interconnections, unlock technology pathways for new generation builds, expand the economic benefits of AI and energy investment for local communities, strengthen U.S. energy leadership and enable broader AI deployment over time.

program that will support over 600 local families in need

, North America’s largest privately held independent power producer, and Grant County Public Utility District (Grant PUD) celebrated the groundbreaking of the Quincy Solar Energy Center on August 18, 2026. The 120-megawatt (MW) project milestone marks Grant PUD's first solar project in Grant County and Invenergy's first solar project in Washington state to break ground. Once operational, the project will provide clean, reliable solar energy to the local grid and generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 25,000 Washington homes.

The event was held at the project site, located near Moses Lake, Washington, and featured a $20,000 donation presentation from Invenergy to the

program that will support over 600 local families in need. This neighbor-to-neighbor program helps families and individuals in need pay their electric bills.

Following remarks from project stakeholders, a ceremonial gold shovel dig highlighted the construction progress already underway at the Quincy Solar site. Attendees included Grant PUD commissioners, executives, and staff; Washington State Senator Judy Warnick; Washington State Representative Alex Ybarra; leaders from IBEW Local 191, IUOE Local 302, and LiUNA Local 348; representatives from Cupertino Electric, the project's engineering and construction contractor; and Invenergy project team members.

"We're proud to partner with Grant PUD on its first solar project in the county and help advance a shared goal of delivering reliable, affordable electricity while creating lasting economic benefits for Grant County,” said

SRP and Invenergy Announce First Agreement on Solar and Storage Project to Help Meet Valley Energy Demand

Salt River Project (SRP), a not-for-profit public power utility serving the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, and Invenergy, North America’s largest privately held independent power producer and energy infrastructure developer, today announced an agreement to add 200 megawatts (MW) of solar energy and 200 MW of 4-hour battery storage to the Valley’s grid. This agreement marks the first partnership between SRP and Invenergy.

Located in Pinal County, the SunDog Energy Center will provide enough capacity to power up to 45,000 Valley homes. SRP is working to more than double the capacity of its power system in the next 10 years to meet increasing energy demand in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Drawing from a variety of energy technologies, Invenergy’s projects are helping the state meet that growing demand.

“Adding solar and storage resources is part of SRP’s all-of-the-above strategy to meet our customer’s growing energy needs with reliable, affordable and sustainable power,”

said Bobby Olsen, SRP Associate General Manager and Chief Power System Executive.

“We look forward to working with Invenergy to bring the benefits of the SunDog Energy Center to our customers and the community.”

SRP has more than 3,000 MW of carbon-free resources currently serving its customers, including 1,455 MW of solar and more than 1,100 MW of battery storage supporting its grid. SRP also has significantly more solar energy and storage capacity under development.

“From the start, SRP has been clear about what it needs to serve its customers, and we’re able to bring the right energy mix as they plan for growth,”

said Ted Romaine, Invenergy’s Executive Vice President for Origination.

“As energy demand continues to grow in Arizona and across the country, hybrid projects like SunDog help strengthen the grid and give utility customers reliable, affordable energy solutions they can trust.”

SunDog will be Invenergy’s 17th facility in Arizona, and first operational site in Pinal County. The project is expected to bring significant economic benefits to Pinal County. These include more than $209 million in local tax revenue, land costs and lease payments. The project will also support anywhere between 200 and 400 jobs during peak construction.

Invenergy has been an active member of Pinal County since 2018, supporting organizations and initiatives including the United Way of Pinal County, Pinal Partnership and the Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Statewide, Invenergy’s portfolio of operational and under construction facilities totals 545 MW of solar power and 736 MW of energy storage to the Arizona grid, helping ensure Arizonans have reliable electricity when they need it most. Invenergy’s projects invest over $2.2 million into Arizona communities every year.

Invenergy is North America’s largest privately held developer, owner, and operator of innovative, reliable power infrastructure. Backed by 25 years of trusted execution and operational excellence, Invenergy’s end-to-end expertise provides customers with smart, scalable energy solutions across natural gas, solar, land-based wind, energy storage, transmission, and domestic manufacturing. SRP is a community-based, not-for-profit public power utility and the largest electricity provider in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, serving over 2 million customers. SRP provides water to about half of the Valley’s residents, delivering more than 244 billion gallons of water (750,000 acre-feet) each year, and manages a 13,000-square-mile watershed that includes an extensive system of reservoirs, wells, canals and irrigation laterals.

New pipeline to help Invenergy meet skyrocketing power demand across Arizona

-- Invenergy, North America’s largest privately held independent power producer and energy infrastructure innovator, today announced it has signed a precedent agreement with a subsidiary of Tallgrass to be the anchor shipper on the associated natural gas infrastructure to support Invenergy’s plans to develop as many as three new natural gas-fired power plants in Arizona’s Maricopa and Yuma Counties.

“For 25 years—including 10 in Arizona—Invenergy has partnered with communities to deliver a mix of energy solutions and shared value for the local economy. As electricity demand grows, it's even more clear that natural gas is critical to keeping energy affordable and reliable, and our agreement with Tallgrass to procure long-term gas supply is proof of our commitment to Arizona, our customers, and the local communities we support,”

said Daniel Runyan, Invenergy’s Senior Vice President for Development.

Electricity demand in Arizona is set to grow more than 40 percent by 2031 due to population growth, new manufacturing, data centers, electrification and artificial intelligence. Natural gas will play a vital role in meeting that demand, but the state currently faces supply constraints caused by limited interstate pipeline capacity.

Our country’s natural gas and renewable energy resources are the key to achieving the dual goals of lowering energy prices for consumers and securing our national advantage in the global AI race,"

said Adam Schiche, Vice President for Business Development at Tallgrass.

“We’re proud to team up with Invenergy to deliver the energy needed to fuel the critical infrastructure powering the next generation of technology.”

Tallgrass’ natural gas infrastructure project will provide the fuel to Invenergy’s facilities. This deliberate design will produce power dedicated to support advanced manufacturing and next generation technologies.

"Energy resiliency and redundancy is the foundation of an advanced economy. This historical partnership of leaders within the energy sector sends a message to the world that the greater Yuma region is now a destination market for companies demanding utility scale power for production. The region's pro-business environment and abundant utility resources (water, fiber and electricity) will be strengthened by this critical infrastructure investment,”
