Invenergy History
From eight entrepreneurs to more than 2,800 employees. From a few gas plants and a vision for the energy future to North America’s largest privately held developer, owner and operator of clean energy solutions with more than 210 projects across four continents. This is the story of Invenergy.
Twenty-five years before Michael Polsky would become the CEO of Invenergy, he came to the U.S. from Ukraine with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, $500 in cash and four suitcases of belongings. He co-founded his first company, Indeck Energy Services, in 1985.
Five years later, Polsky founded SkyGen Energy, where he met Jim Murphy, Invenergy's future president and co-founder. The two assembled the remainder of Invenergy's eight-person founding team and started accelerating the delivery of cleaner, more reliable, affordable energy.
